The Foundation for Rajanukul Institute

The Foundation for Rajanukul Institute was founded in 1991 under the royal patronage of HRH Princess Kalaya Niwattana.  It is our great pleasure operating the foundation henceforth.

Background

Rajanukul Institute is the first institute for the overall developments of quality of lives of the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Thailand. Our services include medical care, educational support in the special school for rehabilitation and early intervention, vocational training, hiring and counseling for parents and the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as being the institute that provides trainings and education for medical doctors, medical personnel and interested individuals for better understanding and cooperation among all parties involved.

Realizing the problems of inadequate services for the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (1% of overall Thai population or 680,000 persons nowadays), The Foundation for Rajanukul Institute since then has determined to be the representative of the right protection and assist the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in all respects with the missions to support all activities of the foundation thoroughly.

Objectives

  1.        To help the intellectually and developmentally disabled persons who are poor.
  2.        To support the operations of the institute and provide trainings for skills development for the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in all aspects.
  3.        To operate all activities for public interests or cooperate with other charity organizations to fulfill this purpose.

 

The Foundation for Rajanukul Institute has supported many key programs as follows:

The Recreation Building Program

HRH Princess Kalaya Niwattana presided over the ceremony of laying foundation stone of the building on 30 September 1994 and later chaired the opening ceremony on 21 March 1996.

The recreation building is the home of movement therapy’s trainings such as sports rehearsal for the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in order for them to gain both physical competence and complete movements. As a result, the athletes representing the institute have been successful in the special Olympic tournament held for the international individuals with cognitive impairments.

 

The building for Bighearted Charity Program (Tharn Namjai or Ruang Jamras Pattana)

It has been operated since 27th of February 1992 for providing the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities with shop keeping skills trainings like selling, money changing and so on.

 


 

The Trial Employment Program for Persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Started in 1995 until now, it is a rehabilitation and skills development program in vocational skills, social skills and habits necessary for the intellectually and developmentally disabled persons to be able to work and live their lives with people in general. The foundation has provided budget supports for the overall operations in which some parts cannot be reimbursed from the government office. Currently, many of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities have passed these programs and been accepted from entrepreneurs. For those without regular jobs can still work with their families to decrease its burden to the great extent.

The Photocopying Shop Program

                “Photocopying” is a business that the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities can operate. The institute has provided the service points managed by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the OPD building, Administration building and office of the foundation. The Institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Education opened another shop within the Department of General Education on the 7th of December 2000. In addition, it will be an open opportunity in order for the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be employed and be a good model for society to realize and accept the workability of them.

The Art Exhibition of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

HRH Princess Kalaya Niwattana, a royal patron, presided over the opening ceremony of the exhibition at the Peninsula plaza on 18 December 2000.

The Foundation of Rajanukul Institute in cooperation with the Department of Mental Health held this event to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the King’s mother or “Somdej Ya” and to exhibit the artistic abilities of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in order to raise social awareness and acceptance of these people as the valuable members of society as well as to raise fund to establish Rajanukul hospital museum.

The Pal Shop Program

The Foundation of Rajanukul Institute in conjunction with the Department of Mental Health has also set up the Pal Shop to be the center for distributing the products of the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and psychiatric patients. Apart from being the early intervention in careers it is also attracting public to witness and accept the values of their works. “Pal Shop” has been in service since 2 April 2001.

The Establishment of Rajanukul Hospital Museum Program

 

                HRH Princess Kalaya Niwattana presided over the establishment of the Rajanukul hospital museum on 29 October 2001. The Foundation of Rajanukul Institute funded the renovation of the ancient building of the institute to be a public museum as to study medical revolutions in psychiatry and cognitive impairments which have been operated for more than a half of century.

 

The Preparation Room for Computer Room Development Program

 

                The Foundation of Rajanukul Institute in conjunction with the Thai Youth Visiting the Mothor’s Homeland program has provided the financial support for the institute to set up the preparation room for development and computer room for developing  teaching and learning technologies for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The computer room was opened on the 25th of April 2002.

 

The Construction Program on Somdej Ya 2545 Charity Fund Building and Ban Rom Pho Program

Somdej Ya Charity Fund Building is a house for basic trainings in preparations for daily life with family and community’s participation. This building was officially opened on 25 April 2003.

Ban Rom Pho Program (Day Care Center) is served for the off-springs of the members of the guardians’ club of individuals with cognitive impairments in case that the guardians are busy and cannot take care of their children. It was opened on 25 April 2003 as well.

 

The Musical Therapy Program

 

Music plays an important part in assisting the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to convey their feelings through physical expressions by relaxing along with the rhythm and melody of songs. This brings about relaxation and better emotion. Thus, music facilitates the emotional development, behaviors and communication skills. The foundation eventually funded the institute to establish the musical therapy center at Rajanukul school on 9 January 2004.

The Young Entrepreneur Program (Thao Kae Noi)

                Rajanukul Institute together with the Foundation has also arranged the coffee& snacks’ corner within the Pal Shop in order for the persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to simulate as an entrepreneur and gain direct experience in which they can be applied to their own business at home. This program began in February 2004.

The Toys& Tales Library Program

                It was launched at the Rajanukul Child Development Center (Muangkhae) on 25 March 2004.

The Fun Family Program and Toys& Tales Library for Child Development Program

                It was operated on 18 May 2005 at Rajanukul Child Development Center (Klongkum).

Besides, the foundation has thoroughly backed up other activities, for instance, Children’s Day, New Year’s Eve, Institute Sports Day, etc.

 

The Dental Clinic Program to celebrate the 84th Birthday’s Anniversary of HRH Princess

  

The dental clinic has wholeheartedly been developed to increase the effectiveness of service, treatment and oral health rehabilitation on the auspicious occasion of the 84th birthday anniversary of HRH  Princess Kalaya Niwattana. Thanpuying Tasanawalai Sornsongkram, secretary to Somdej Ya Fund for Charity as well as Gen. Wanchai Ruangtrakul, president of the Foundation for Rajanukul Institute and M.L. Somchai Chakrapan, M.D., director- general of the Department of Mental Health, MoPH, presided over the opening ceremony of the clinic on 3 May 2007.

 

The Gardening Natural Therapy Program for Outdoor Physical Therapy

“Gardening natural therapy, charity fund Kor Wor 2551” was started on 11 January 2008 by restoring the ability of special children who had been treated with physical therapy to learn and move properly as well as to create experience relating to nature and environment collectively.

 

The Merit Making and Dharma Garden Program by Rajanukul Institute’s Ethical Club

  

The Ethical Club of Rajanukul Institute has initiated the merit making garden “Lan Boon”& dharma garden “Lan Tham” for the purpose of setting up a place for members to carry out religious rites and activities. The planning, monitoring, supervision of the construction, decoration of surrounding landscapes, from beginning to completion, were administered by Captain Jitat Sornsongkram. The opening of the merit making and dharma garden together with the principal Buddha image were celebrated on 13 July 2009.

                It was established to commemorate the countless dedications of HRH Princess Galaya Niwattana with the opening ceremony on 23 December 2011.

 
Opening Ceremony of Foundation Office for Rajanukul Institute under Her Royal Highness Princess GalyaniVadhanaKromLuangNaradhiwasRajanagarindra’sPatronage

                                                                                                                           
 
                  On April 24th2015, Milady Dhasanawalaya Sornsongkram, presided opening the new office of Rajanukul Foundation for 24th anniversary of its establishment.
The committee of the construction was kindly supported by Captain Jitas Sornsongkram, the foundation consultant and his team for design and construction control until completion. On this occasion, Milady Dhasanawalaya Sornsongkram, Deputy Chairman of Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother Charity Fund and GV (GalyaniVadhana ) Charity Fund, gave 2.2 million baht as an initial budget for this construction. In addition, there were also other organizations and people donated for new Rajanukul Foundation office such as Kanchanasiri Foundation: 200,000 baht, the National Housing Authority for charity in the occasion of its 42th anniversary: 156,000 baht, Foundation for Welfare and Rehabilitation in Disabled Children: 100,000 baht, Mr. Charoen and LadyWanna Siriwattanapakdee: 100,000 Baht, S&P Syndicate Public Company Limited: 100,000 baht, Rotary Club of Srapathum: 100,000 Baht and money from people with thoughtful mind which had been collected over 24 years. The overall cost for construction, equipment and landscape refurbishment was approximately 9,000,000 Baht.
 
 
Opening ceremony for Chaiphochana food center
 
 
 
                  On April 24th 2015, General Wanchai Ruengtrakul, Chairman of Foundation for Rajanukul Insitute, performed opening ceremony for Chaiphochana food center.
The Chaiphochana food center provides food and drink for customers, parents, Rajanukul staff and people from Monday to Friday at 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please be informed that the food center does not provide services on the weekend and National Holidays.
