Rajanukul Institute Training Courses

Rajanikul Institute provides various of training courses aiming for being an excellent mental health and psychiatry center in intellectual disability. Enhancing Rajanukul institute to be well accepted in the field of intellectual disability in Asian is our strategic issue. From past to present, the institute has had many training courses which was continuously developed then been certified from the Department of Mental Health and Federation of Professions. We have continued organizing training courses for medical, educational, and other associated professional practitioners in these 10 following courses:

1. The using of Developmental Skills Inventory Manual for Early Childhood age 0-5 years

The course was developed by the Service Quality Improvement and Developmental Promotion for Early Childhood Board of Rajanukul Institute. We realized the importance of child developmental promotion and the need of healthcare workers to broaden their knowledge and experiences for screening and promoting child development on a basic level. Furthermore, this manual helped us built and strengthens our developmental promotion network throughout the country. This course was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2009 and had been taught from then until 2013. 

2. Training Program of Nursing Specialty in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing

This program was originated from the collaboration of Rajanukul Institute and Faculty of Nursing, Thammasat University. The program aims to produce expert nurses, who have both specialized knowledge and practical skills for managing child and adolescent with complicated psychiatric problems, using nursing and other related areas of study to provide holistic nursing for promoting, preventing, treating, and rehabilitating child and adolescent mental health and psychiatry including their family as well as community.

The program had been certified by Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council since 2006 and renewed the latest certification in 2017. We have trained over 785 nationwide nurses (20 classes) who are working on helping young individuals and their families who have suffered from mental health and psychiatry problems to be able to receive high quality services. This program also facilitates the mental health and psychiatry service development for child and adolescent and also expanse this service among public health system.

3. Family therapy for professional practitioners who work with child and family

In collaboration with the Department of Mental Health, Social Work Professions Council, and Faculty of social administration of Thammasat University, Rajanukul Institute developed the course of Family Therapy in Child and Family for professional practitioners by organizing the Satir model-based family therapy workshop. The course was certified by Social Work Professions Council in 2012 and has trained over 396 nationwide professional practitioners (11 classes) such as doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and educators form various government agencies and private organizations who work around the country. The course assists all trainees in using Satir’s family therapy knowledge and skills to serve client’s family effectively, aiming for extensive implementing family therapy service in the field of working with child and family.

4. Intensive performance development for dental personnel and health professionals in providing dental care to individuals with intellectual or developmental disability

  

This is a short training course focusing on dental health promotion and prevention in children with Intellectual disability and developmental disability. This course is aiming for dental personnel and health professionals (e.g. dentists, dental assistants, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, and nurses) to advance their knowledge, understanding, and fundamental skills to provide dental care to individuals with intellectual or developmental disability. Therefore, these health professionals can also work together in a multidisciplinary approach to provide dental promotion, prevention, and basic treatment to the target group both in hospital and community settings. The course was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2015 and has been taught continually. Fifty-five health professionals who completed the course contribute to the greater dental care service management, distribution, and access to children with intellectual or developmental disability.

5. Preparing Employment to be a job coach for Individuals with Intellectual Disability

This course was developed for enhancing essential knowledge, understanding, and skills about being a job coaching for staffs who provide social and occupational rehabilitation to individuals with intellectually disability. These workers should be able to do task analysis and find the right job for each individual with intellectually disability, and also progress the provision of social and occupational rehabilitation service. The course was certified by the Department of Mental Health in 2017 and was organized for 2 classes (69 participants from government agencies and private organizations in various regions of Thailand) making the greater service distribution, service access, and employment of individuals with intellectual disability.

6. Intensive Behavior Modification for Psychologist

This course developed for enhancing knowledge and understanding of theories, principles, processes, and techniques in behavior modification for psychologist, clinical psychologist, and developmental psychologist. The program is also providing basic family counseling together with behavior modification effectively to children (aged 3-12 years) who have behavioral problems in these three areas: 1) inattentive/hyperactivity 2) uncooperative/defiant/adjustment behavior problem and 3) aggressive behavior. The program was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2017. Aiming for contributing psychologist, clinical psychologist, and developmental psychologist to facilitate behavior modification clinic in their health service settings therefore children with intellectual or developmental disability can increasingly access to this service.

7. Practicum in stimulating Speech and Language Developmental for Children with Delayed Speech

 

This training program is a two weeks practice program developed based-on requests from local health facilities’ need, the limited speech-language pathologists affecting many children with delayed speech or language developmental problems have delay access to speech therapies. This program organized for medical and educational professionals from various government agencies and private organizations who work with children with special needs to assess problems, provide basic treatment, and give advice to parents who have child with delayed speech or language developmental problems. Therefore, this young group can access basic help related to speech and language issues at early age. The program was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2018.

8. Intensive Basic Occupational Therapy Focusing on Sensory Adaptation for Children with Behavioral, Emotional, and Social Problems

This is a two weeks practice program helping medical and educational professionals to understand the principle of occupational therapy services for children with special needs. To empathize the holistic problem is the basic skill to find what factors for conducting occupational therapy activities including proprioception, emotion proprioception, as well as behavioral, emotional, and social expression. These are guidelines for designing activities to assist children with special needs to be able to perform their age-appropriate tasks, and for applying these basic knowledges onto each clinical setting. The program was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2018.

9. Caring for individuals with Intellectual Disability: Health Care Professionals Aspect

This course is developed for public health, educational, and other professional practitioners who work with individuals with intellectual disability focusing on basic knowledge and understanding of intellectual disability. Our aims are to promote, provide, and rehabilitate health for individuals with intellectual disability appropriately. Therefore, these individuals will be able to reach their full potential both physically and mentally. The course was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2019

10. Fundamental course for Health Professionals to provide care to individuals with Intellectual Disability (HPtoID)

 

Our first English language course is developed by multidisciplinary team to serve our strategic Issue: enhancing Rajanukul institute to be well accepted in the field of cognitive impairment in Asian. This course is aiming for sharing our knowledge of Intellectual Disability and basic treatments for international healthcare professionals. This course was certified by the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, in 2019.

Other than these certified courses, in this year, 2020, Rajanukul institute are developing “Art Therapy for individuals with intellectual disability” which is generated and gathered from our professional experiences. We were using applied art and creative activities as treatment tasks for children with intellectual or developmental disability. Those who completed the course will have knowledge, understanding, and skills which will be enough to modify the process of art therapy appropriately for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities making them have better potentials and behaviors.

 

Rajanukul Institute continually offered various certified training courses as well as innovated new training courses related to cognitive impairment. We aim to meet the needs of those who interest and wish for advanced knowledge in areas of intellectual disability.
